California Shoe Company Develops Vegan Wool-Free Ugg Boots

Share

California-based footwear company Bearpaw has launched vegan versions of its Ugg-style boots, featuring a wool-free lining and suede-free exterior.

The company currently offers three vegan women’s shoes – two Ugg-style winter boots and one slipper – made from microsuede (polyester), a polyester blend lining, and a lightweight rubber outsole. The boots come in the Elle Short Vegan or Elle Tall Vegan styles and are available in the colors black or tan. Both styles are treated with NeverWet, which protects the shoes against water and stains.

All of the cruelty-free styles, including the Loki Vegan slippers, have a plush acrylic lining that is said to help keep your feet warm while the footbed helps reduce foot fatigue.

Popularized by the brand Ugg, the winter boots are notorious for the use of lambskin, aka shearling, which is skin with the fleece still attached. According to international animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), millions of sheep are castrated and have parts of their tails cut off without the use of painkillers before being sent to slaughter.

Where to Buy Vegan Ugg-Style Boots

While Ugg has yet to release a vegan version of its signature boots, Bearpaw and other brands are catering to the rising demand for cruelty-free fashion by launching animal-free versions.

DAWGS vegan faux shearling boots are made from vegan microfiber and are available in eight colors, including leopard print and plum. It’s available in 9-inch, 13-inch, and kids sizes.
