Why You Need to Put Vegan Mushroom Skincare On Your Face

Four Sigmatic, known for its mushroom-based coffee products, recently branched out into the beauty industry, launching a Mushroom Face Mask & Tonic and a Superfood Serum.

Packed with protein, fiber, and essential vitamins, mushrooms can be a valuable and nutritious addition to most any meal – or coffee in Four Sigmatic’s case. But putting them on your face?

According to Four Sigmatic founder Tero Isokauppila, mushroomsshiitake, tremella, reishi, and chaga varieties in particular – are also known for their skin benefits, helping to hydrate, soothe, and purify.

According to Isokaupilla, customers were already seeking out Four Sigmatic’s products for their positive skincare side effects, long before the brand launched its beauty products. “Many of our products were known for their skin benefits,” he explained to Allure. “My goal since day one was to always create effective products.”

The Mushroom Face Mask & Tonic comes in a powder formula but turns into a paste when mixed with water; both reishi and chaga mushrooms used in the recipe possess antioxidant properties. The mask is also edible, for those who don’t fancy pasting their face, it can be treated like a tonic, mixed with hot water, and drunk like a hot chocolate.

The Superfood Serum should be used twice daily, notes the Four Sigmatic website, helping to fight lines, hydrate, and maintain skin elasticity. Like the face mask and tonic, the serum is also edible, and the brand recommends customers drip the citrusy drops straight into their mouth. “Eating the refreshingly citrus dietary supplement provides wellness support,” notes the brand.

According to Isokauppila, although the products are beneficial for your skin, and they’re marketed accordingly, eating them is also actively encouraged.

“There are plenty of products that are organic, green, and natural, but I wanted something so pure you could actually eat it,” he explained. “So, I started playing around with adaptogens and superfoods, and finally created a set of skin-care products you can – and should – eat. If you can’t eat it, I’m not going to put it on my skin or in our skin-care products.”

The new products are available for U.S. and Canadian customers from the Four Sigmatic website.
