Greggs Will Deliver Vegan Food Anywhere In the UK

(Updated January 15, 2020) Soon, you will be able to get vegan sausage rolls and steak bakes delivered to your house. Greggs — which has more than 2,000 locations across the country — is reportedly set to roll out nationwide food delivery.

The popular bakery chain previously trialed delivery with Uber Eats in 2017 but dropped the service shortly after. It trialed again through the Just Eat delivery app at select stores in London, Newcastle, and Glasgow in July 2019. It has also trialed with Deliveroo, reports the Sun.

Now, it has revealed it is close to picking a delivery partner and rolling out the service nationwide. CEO Roger Whiteside told City AM, “we have learned enough to decide that we are interested in rolling out [delivery] across the country.”

It is unconfirmed when the service will launch or how many delivery partners Greggs will choose.

Greggs launched its vegan sausage rolls at the beginning of 2019, stirring up the troll-ish ire of “Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan but, mostly, generating a great deal of praise from sausage roll fans across the UK.

Greggs vegan sausage rolls –made from Quorn sausage and dairy-free puff pastry– were nearly impossible to get a hold of for a short while, with customers coming up empty-handed even after visiting several stores. Some were willing to bid £7 for the pastry on eBay. The popular launch sparked new interest in veganism— there was an increase in Google searches about vegan living following the meat-free sausage roll launch.

It followed up this launch with vegan-friendly donuts and the Vegan Steak Bake at the beginning of 2020. Like the sausage roll, the new bake features puff pastry and Quorn, as well as diced onions and gravy.

More vegan options are on the cards in the future for Greggs. Last year, Whiteside revealed that the chain is planning to release vegan versions of all of its top-selling products. Earlier this month, he told the Sun that vegan chicken could be next.  “[Vegan] chicken is a way forward,” he said. “I have seen some good products out there.”
