San Remo Launches 3 New Vegan Ravioli Fresh Pasta Flavors

Australian pasta company San Remo now makes vegan ravioli.

San Remo has been making pasta for more than 80 years. Most of its dry pasta products are suitable for vegans but now San Remo is expanding its range with three new plant-based ravioli products.

The new flavours are Lentil, Spinach, and Garlic; Roast Capsicum and Olive; and Sundried Tomato and Basil. San Remo writes on its website that the pasta is a good source of protein and fibre. It contains no artificial colours, flavours, or cholesterol and takes six minutes to cook.

Ravioli recipes often include eggs and cheese. To make its ravioli, San Remo goes without these items and opts for ingredients like breadcrumbs, spinach, lentils, potato flakes, and textured vegetable protein.

“This pasta is a flavoursome, meat free alternative that the whole family can enjoy and can be prepared with your favourite sauce or pesto,” the company writes.

San Remo noted on social media that the meal will satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike. “You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy these. They’re for all lovers of good quality fresh pasta,” it said.

Vegan Italian Food

Vegan Italian food is becoming more popular all over the world. In the UK, several restaurant chains specializing in Italian food — including ASK Italian, Frankie & Benny’s, and Pizza Express — have reworked their menus to include more plant-based dishes.

Jamie Oliver’s restaurant chain Jamie’s Italian recently announced it would be plating up more vegan food in its Australian restaurants. It launched a new vegan and vegetarian menu with more than 20 dishes, including a vegan mushroom ravioli. The ravioli dish features pasta parcels stuffed with mixed mushrooms and chestnuts. It’s served in a light tomato and mushroom sauce.

Amy’s Kitchen, which specializes in organic and non-GMO convenience and frozen foods, introduced a vegan spinach ravioli bowl last year. The frozen meal contains organic wheat pasta filled with dairy-free ricotta and organic spinach. It’s then coated in vegan marinara sauce.

The vegan ricotta’s base is made from tofu. Amy’s Kitchen makes the cheese in-house with non-GMO soybeans, coconut milk, nutritional yeast, and savory seasonings.

San Remo’s new vegan ravioli products will be available in independent stores in Australia including IGA supermarkets.
