Vegan Indian Meat Brand Sells More Than 10,000 Ready Meals Every Day

GoodDot, an Indian vegan meat company, is poised to make big sales in the vegetarian Indian food market. The brand currently sells between 10,000-15,000 plant-based ready meals daily.

The Udaipur-based GoodDot is funding its growth with the help of individual investors and $200,000 from New Crop Capital, a venture capital fund that has invested in vegan businesses such as Beyond Meat, Good Catch FoodsSunfed Meats, Geltor, Lighter, and NUMU.

Sinha explained that one of the company’s products, which is simply called Vegetarian Meat, is “sold in chunks,” and “could be a replacement for mutton or chicken, depending on whether it is cooked in a curry or as kebabs.”

“You need to provide credible alternatives to meat eaters — tasty and with nutrients,” he said. GoodDot uses pea protein, wheat gluten, soy protein and flour, and other ingredients to make its product taste like meat. Consumers don’t have to refrigerate GoodDot’s products. The brand’s food also has a shelf life of a year.

In addition to providing a plant-based food option to consumers, GoodDot’s Vegetarian Meat product also is affordable. Compared to Beyond Meat’s Beyond Burger, which costs the equivalent of Rs 430 for a two-pack, a pack of  GoodDot’s Vegetarian Meat costs only Rs 135.

So far, the company is doing well after launching just over a year ago. In addition to selling thousands of vegan ready meals a day, the brand intends to open at least 30 food trucks throughout the nation.
