Vegan Spiced Iced Fruit Cake Slices Added to Tesco’s Christmas Range

Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket chain, had added more plant-based treats to its extensive vegan Christmas range, including iced fruit cake slices.

Tesco’s new spiced Iced Fruit Cake Slices are part of the supermarket’s Free From range, made without wheat, milk, egg, and gluten. Available in packs of five, they are the ideal festive treat for allergy-prone consumers.

This year, the major chain has also introduced festive baking kits: the Tesco Free From Christmas Cake Kit, and the Tesco Free From Yule Yule Log Cake Kit. Both are free from milk, wheat, and gluten, and can be made without eggs. Since these products are intended to be baked at home, consumers can easily use vegan-friendly egg replacements – such as banana, soaked chia seeds, or aquafaba – to create festive desserts suitable for all to enjoy.

On top of these seasonal desserts, Tesco is also making sure that mince pies, the ultimate Christmas classic, can be enjoyed by all. Both its non-decorative and Lattice Top Puff Pastry Mince Pies, featuring flaky puff pasty filled with spiced sultanas, juicy raisins, and currants mincemeat, are made without eggs and dairy. The chain is also selling Mr Kipling’s Free From Mince Pies, which feature gluten-free pastry and are vegan-friendly.

It’s not just festive sweet-treats offered by Tesco this Christmas. Following its popularity last year, the popular vegan cauliflower Wellington will be returning this year. Featuring a whole turmeric-spiced cauliflower with butternut squash, the golden pastry-wrapped wellington is stuffed with minced mushrooms flavored with red wine, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The supermarket giant will also offer a vegan butternut squash entrée and a selection of festive vegan pastry rolls for Christmas. The new pastry selection will include Moroccan spiced cauliflower, sultana, and harissa rolls, roasted butternut rolls seasoned with spiced pearl barley and herbs, and katsu rolls featuring katsu curry vegetables and a katsu crumb topping.

VEGAN-FRIENDLY CHRISTMAS DESSERTS

Tesco is not the only UK retailer offering desserts suitable for all consumers this Christmas.

British cocoa grower and chocolatier Hotel Chocolat is offering consumers a luxury, vegan-friendly Christmas pudding. The dessert features salted caramel vodka liqueur soaked sultanas and melting drops of 70 percent dark chocolate.

Leading supermarket chain Waitrose is also offering a selection of plant-based desserts, including a Chocolate Torte, Pineapple & Coconut Panna Cotta, and Iced Fruit Cake. Likewise, Bidfood, one of the nation’s largest food wholesalers, offers vegan Belgian Chocolate and Raspberry Torte, Lemon Swirl Cheesecake, and Honeybuns Mincemeat Crumble Citrus Traybake desserts.
