Calling all sweet tooths! This one’s for you.

Confectionery by Free From Fellows will be sold at 330 Sainbury’s, the UK’s second largest supermarket, as of this month. Their sweets can already be purchased at Whole Foods and Holland & Barrett. The line includes flavours such as Cola Bottles, Lollipops, Pear Drops and Gummy Bears.

Startup company Free From Fellows was launched this year. Their confectionery is free from sugar, palm oil, dairy, egg, soy, nuts and GMO. They are also certified by the vegan society. They are all made without gelatin.

Many consumers are unaware what ‘gelatin’ really means, as it’s hidden vaguely on many ingredients lists. Gelatin is made from various animal body parts, and finds itself commonly added to confectionery.

Thankfully, gelatin is not necessary in our candy or our diets. Free From Fellows joins a growing list of companies opting for products that do not use animals in their food.

Bravura Foods, who launched Free From Fellows, state that their ethics are “driven by vegetarian and vegan needs” and include “respecting all animals”. They also aim to consider “consumers’ health and well being”.

The director of Bravura Foods is Lisa Gawthorne, who is also vegan. She told Confectionary News that her brand aspired to “offer more – as there are many products out there that are sugar-free or gluten-free but not gelatin-free or vice versa”.

“…We wanted to fill that gap and offer something to the market that has universal acceptance as well as something that tastes amazing”.
