Cruelty-free and vegan accessories brand Matt & Nat will soon debut an outwear collection for autumn 2019.

Eight styles will be released in the new line, which includes men’s and women’s wear, Drapers reports. Vegan leather biker jackets, puffer jackets, and pieces made with animal-free wool will be included in the collection.

Whilst exact launch details have not been announced, Matt & Nat’s other products can be found at stockists like Urban Outfitters and John Lewis, suggesting that these outlets may also carry the new outwear products.

Matt & Nat

Matt & Nat – named after the inspiration behind its designs, MAT(T)erial & NATure – has been making vegan leather products since 1995. Bags, purses, footwear, sunglasses, and belts are some items the company offers.

Its website states that it is “committed to not using leather or any other animal-based materials in designs.” Although Matt & Nat has come under fire for using PVC, which is said to contain harmful chemical additives including phthalates and lead, the brand is working to integrate more recycled fabrics into its products; all of its linings are now made from recycled plastic bottles.

Vegan Fashion

More people than ever are choosing cruelty-free in fashion and Matt & Nat is one of the many companies reacting to the increase in demand.

Italian fashion brand Altiir makes cruelty-free gold and silver biker jackets out of pineapple leather. The fruit is also a key ingredient in the leather used to make James&Co’s animal-free jackets.

In December, Canadian outerwear brand Quartz Co. launched vegan down jackets insulated with milkweed, the food of monarch butterfly caterpillars.

Vegan accessory brand Wilby specialises in organic materials like cork leather. All of its bags are approved by PETA, the largest animal rights organization in the world. JW PEI uses a microfibre leather alternative in its products and donates 10 percent of every sale to animal sanctuaries.

Matt & Nat’s new collection will be available from July.
