Aldi UK has announced its upcoming vegan Christmas range. The budget supermarket chain will launch vegan party food and plant-based mains especially for the festive season.

A Mexican-style party pack complete with mini tacos stuffed with vegetable pibil, BBQ jackfruit tortilla rolls, and chipotle tofu flautas will join Aldi’s store shelves toward the end of the year.

The chain will also add a dim sum selection which includes mushroom bao buns, vegan duck rolls, and pumpkin dumplings.

Vegan mains include frozen parcels made with crispy flash-fried pastry. They are available in two flavors: Firecracker Vegetable and BBQ Jackfruit.

A meat-free Wellington is also joining the ranks. Traditional Wellingtons contain fillet steak coated in pâté (a liver-based paste); Aldi’s cauliflower version is topped with turmeric, garlic, and ginger.

Aldi will also introduce a tearable Mushroom Roulade wrapped in flaky pastry.

Vegan Christmas Food in the UK

Aldi joins other supermarket chains in the UK in announcing festive plant-based food options.

Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket chain, announced its Christmas options in July. Its range includes Wicked Kitchen’s festive vegan turkey wraps which are filled with pea protein and stuffing. Sticky Chilli Cauliflower and Thai Inspired Butternut, Coconut & Lemongrass Rolls will also be available, as well as vegan pigs in duvets.

For mains, Tesco will offer a Butternut Squash, Mushroom, and Chestnut Wreath; a Stuffed Butternut; and a Sweet Potato & Red Cabbage Christmas Log. The supermarket chain will offer a festive dairy-free Chocolate Torte for dessert.

Asda has also teased its upcoming Christmas range. The UK’s second-largest supermarket chain will launch two vegan sides: meat-free pork cocktail sausages and cranberry and apple stuffing balls.

Like Aldi, Asda will offer a vegan Wellington. Asda’s version features a blend of chickpeas, cranberries, and apricots mixed with festive spices and a sweet cranberry sauce. For dessert, Asda will offer a vegan gold and chocolate swirl.

Mark Richmond, Asda’s Head Development Chef, said in a statement that the company has included “the much-loved Christmas ingredients and flavors of the festive season that our customers know and love” to make its “inspirational” options with a “range of taste sensations for everyone to enjoy.”
