Dreaming of Bangkok? Why This New Vegan Cafe Is a Must Visit

If you’re looking for a bustling, vibrant city destination, Bangkok is your place. It’s bursting with culture, history, and it’s home to some of the friendliest people on the planet (don’t just take our word for it, Bangkok is actually world-renowned for its kind and accommodating residents). But aside from its good nature, Thailand’s capital is also known for something else: food. With a plethora of street food stalls, cafes, and restaurants to choose from across the city, there are options for pretty much any dietary preference. But lately, Bangkok’s vegan scene has really started to take off.

According to the restaurant locator Happy Cow, there are more than 340 vegan or vegetarian-friendly eateries in Bangkok. But for your very first taste of the plant-based action, you should head to Nature’s Charm Cafe, located downtown, on Sukhumvit Road.

The cafe is the creation of Sonya and Marisa Osonphasop, the sisters behind the vegan brand of the same name. You may actually already be familiar with Nature’s Charm’s products; in 2014, they launched the world’s first commercially-packed sweetened condensed coconut milk. After that, in a bid to make vegan baking simpler than ever, they launched evaporated coconut milk and coconut whipping cream.

“We always managed to find a way to eat yummy food and so we want to show everyone that you can enjoy vegan food without compromising your taste buds,” Marisa told LIVEKINDLY earlier this year. “We have always loved cooking and baking and our dream is to recreate a veganized version of all the foods we used to love pre-vegan days. We hope that everyone will choose the same cruelty-free way of life.”

From Successful Vegan Brand to Bangkok’s Best Plant-Based Cafe?

In the last six years, Nature’s Charm has come a long way. The Thai brand now offers 23 savory and sweet products in a whopping 45 countries. Everything is cruelty-free, vegan, and created from whole food ingredients, like jackfruit, banana blossom, mushrooms, and of course, coconuts. Chef’s Choice—Nature’s Charm’s parent company, owned by the Osonphasop family—was Thailand’s first coconut milk plant. To this day, it remains the only vegan coconut factory in the country.

You might think that achieving this worldly success would be enough for the Osonphasop sisters, but their plates just weren’t full enough. Or more to the point, your plates just weren’t full enough.

After receiving a number of requests for recipe recommendations from loyal customers, the duo decided to show everyone just how it’s done. Back in July 2020, with an aim to create a go-to destination in Bangkok to meet new like-minded friends and sample new vegan dishes, they launched the first Nature’s Charm Cafe.

The eatery offers all the comfort food classics, the majority of which are made with Nature’s Charm or Chef’s Choice ingredients. Choose from Chick’n Pops, fish and chips, jackfruit burgers, or even an all-day breakfast.

There are also Thai-Western fusion dishes, like the Tom Yum Mac n’ Cheeze. If you’re after something more traditional, order the Masaman curry or the Hail the Holy Bowl (a favorite of the locals).

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a trip to the cafe’s glass case (aka, a treasure trove of all of its most indulgent cakes and treat), is a must. You can get your hands on all manner of options, including beautiful, delightfully-Instagrammable French-style macarons.
