Sweet Earth Foods Launches Vegan Pizza With Chia Seed Crust

Sweet Earth Foods, a vegetarian ready-made meal company, is taking on pizza. The eco-conscious company just announced its new artisan vegan pizza at the Natural Products Expo West 2018 tradeshow held in Anaheim, Calif.

Tradeshow attendees flocked to the Sweet Earth booth, where the news had spread about its latest vegan-friendly creation. The pizza base is not your average cardboard frozen dough; the crust is made with corn, carrot, and chia seeds to amp up nutrition and texture. As the package claims, “It’s all about the crust.”

An herby, creamy cauliflower marinara sauce is ladled on top and finished with a mountain of fresh vegetables including broccolini, brussels sprouts, mushrooms, corn, and onions. Appropriately named the Veggie Lovers, every component of this pizza is infused with vegetables.

This pizza offers yet another vegan-friendly option to the current line of Sweet Earth products. The company offers frozen entrees in the form of bowls and breakfast sandwiches, as well as fusion foods wrapped in burritos, quesadillas, and empanadas. However, not all of these options are vegan; some products contain egg and dairy. Sweet Earth has expanded its vegan offerings with its marinated seitan, plant-based meats, and culturally-inspired veggie burgers. This new dairy-free plant-based pizza may represent a shift toward a more vegan-friendly attitude for the company. In fact, many took to Facebook to ask the company for a full plant-based commitment.

Since 1978, this central California-based company has focused on providing non-GMO products that are “flavorful, convenient and sustainable.” All ingredients are sourced as locally as possible to support farmers and cut down on the company’s environmental impact. Further, many of these ingredients are organic, when possible. Founders Kelly and Brian Swette are on a mission to “honor and sustain the land, cultivate a curious mind and palate, and sustain a healthy body.”

Sweet Earth was acquired by Nestlé Foods late last year.

Sweet Earth products can be found in both the freezer and refrigerated sections in multiple grocers nationwide. To find a “better for you pizza” near you, check out the store locator.
