Clarins Just Launched Its First Ever Vegan Skincare Range

Clarins Just Got Into the Vegan Skincare Category In a Major Way

Luxury French skin care brand Clarins is launching a new range of products developed for all skin types – oily, “problem,” and normal.

My Clarins, the name of the new range, is aimed at the 18 to 25-year-olds. It features nine facial care products such as cleansing milk, cleansing cream, moisturizer, a hydrating mist, and a “mattifying” stick, which also acts as a primer. All ingredients are vegan and 88 percent are of “natural origin,” according to Get the Gloss.

Additionally, the products use eco-friendly, minimalist packaging made from recycled materials. Because the range is cruelty-free, the line will not be available in markets such as China, where animal testing is required by law.

Cruelty-Free and Vegan Skin Care

My Clarins is the French skin care brand’s first foray into cruelty-free and vegan products. While the company has not revealed the inspiration behind the brand, it can be speculated that it is due to the rising demand for vegan cosmetics, which includes personal care items in addition to makeup. The global market is expected to reach $20.8 billion by 2025, according to data from Grand View Research.

Between 2013 and 2018, there was a 175 percent increase in vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics launches, according to Mintel’s Global New Products Database.

The demand is driven primarily by Millennial and Generation Z consumers who are aware of the ethical issues with using animals for ingredients and product safety testing as well as those seeking “clean” label products. Mintel noted that there is still room for brands and retailers to capture the burgeoning market.

My Clarins joins a growing number of brands making cruelty-free, vegan, and “clean” skin care products. Portland’s Pacifica Beauty specializes in lotions, facial care, and makeup formulated without ingredients like parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, and petroleum.

Entrepreneur and former med student Akilah Redeford founded her brand, Mary Louise Cosmetics, out of a desire to create an affordable, natural skin care brand. Her serums and mud masks have somewhat of a cult following among beauty fans.

My Clarins is currently available at ASOS in the UK and Sephora in France. A US launch has not yet been announced, but the website notes that it is “coming soon.”
