Copper Branch, the largest vegan restaurant chain in the world, is set to open its first-ever U.S. location in New York City next month.
The Montreal-based company already has 30 locations throughout Canada and plans to open 80 more across the globe by 2019, and 150 more by 2020.
Serving soups, power bowls, burgers, wraps, power smoothies, sandwiches, and more, Copper Branch aims to make the plant-based lifestyle accessible to everyone. Founder and CEO Rio Infantino created the chain after working for many years in the fast-food industry. He grew tired of serving foods that were bad for people and carried no nutritional value. He himself struggled with a number of weight and health problems, so he turned over a new leaf, and Copper Branch was born.
“Our goal is to branch across the globe, serving you, your friends, and family great tasting, chef-inspired, and conveniently-served plant-based meals in an effort to nourish and inspire the mainstream with proven Power Foods,” says the Copper Branch website. “We aspire for everyone to live their lives to the ultimate fullest. To empower, energize, and make people feel their best.”
The company chose New York as its first U.S. spot because of the city’s international reputation. With a number of vegan restaurant openings, festivals, events, and conferences taking place there over recent years, NYC has continued to become more vegan-friendly, open-minded, and progressive.
In August, the city held the first-ever Black vegan festival, Black VegFest, which aimed to address food sovereignty in poor communities of color as well as women’s rights, animal suffering, environmental damage, and more. Further, in June, it will play host to the first Plant Based World Conference & Expo, which will feature a number of industry-leading experts, as well as educational sessions, and vegan food and beverage vendors.
“New York City was a clear choice for our first U.S. location as it provides great visibility for the brand and is one of the world’s most recognized active and forward-thinking cities,” Infantino said in a statement. “Like our brand ethos, NYC epitomizes strong roots while simultaneously being dynamic and embracing the future.”
