Cape Town is honestly one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I am so happy that the vegan movement is growing there. With many hidden gems and most restaurants offering vegan options, it certainly can make life easy when eating out with those who prefer meat dishes.

The majority of vegan restaurants and offerings can be found in the city/ central business district, where the streets are full of energy and culture.

The Best Vegan Eats in Cape Town

THE HUNGRY HERBIVORE

What started out as a small market stall recently opened its restaurant doors. Their menu includes anything from breakfasts to raw pizza slices, cooked pizzas, nachos and probably the best burger I’ve ever had.

Known as the ‘Oh-Sweet-Kim’ burger, it consists of a housemade sweet potato, quinoa, kimchi and lentil patty, caramelized onion, avocado, spicy mayo and a side of sweet potato fries. Served in either a wheat bun or bunless on a bed of tangy greens. I usually have it bunless, and it is SO good. They also have some seriously amazing raw desserts, gluten-free waffles and ice cream. Sold yet?

PLANT CAFE

Offering an exciting menu consisting of lasagne, refried bean quesadillas (my personal favourite), tapas, nachos, salads and even a falafel wrap. Most meals offer a gluten free option too!

I highly recommend trying their green juice to sip on while waiting for your meal and enjoying the relaxing setup, lighting and music. It has a real island living feel and makes you feel as if you’ve been transported to Bali. Who wouldn’t love to eat in a setting like that?

They also have a variety of raw desserts to feast on

UNFRAMED

The most ultimate vegan ice cream in Cape Town. I’m not even exaggerating! They are always creating new flavours such as blue spirulina coconut, raspberry, matcha, turmeric latte – My personal favourite indulgence.

Their mint, blackcurrant and coconut is delicious. So refreshing!

They do offer normal dairy ice cream as well but with at least least 2 or 3 vegan flavours at a time, you’ll still be spoilt for choice and the vegan options seem to keep expanding. If that doesn’t convince you, they also offer a selection of amazing toppings including raw macaroons, candied nuts, and date sauce. YUM!

HONEST CHOCOLATE CAFE

A small artisinal chocolate cafe in Cape Town that creates a variety of hand-crafted indulgent chocolates and bakes made with their chocolates. Their chocolates are truly exquisite but more importantly ethical and organically grown. All of their cacao beans are sourced from Ecuador and Tanzania.

The food is just as inviting as the decor featuring the likes of a variety of handmade chocolates, bakes and milkshakes.  One of which is a their ‘Coconut Dream’ – a dairy free chocolate milkshake treat that is a firm favourite for many. Many of their bakes are vegan and gluten free, like their Buckwheat Chocolate Tart and the Banana bread bunny chow. Made with raw cacao, everything made here is rich and luxurious. Sure to sort out any chocolate craving!
