Vegan Celeb Kevin Smith Has Rescued Lambs Named In His Honor

Vegan filmmaker Kevin Smith and his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, are now the namesakes for rescue lambs at Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s first shelter for rescued farm animals.

Via Instagram, Smith shared an image of the lambs and wrote, “Meet Kevin, Harley and Quinn!” The news follows this Thanksgiving, when the “Clerks” creator appeared alongside his daughter in a PSA for Farm Sanctuary. Urging Americans to abstain from eating turkey, the pair even became spokespeople for the farm’s 33rd annual Adopt a Turkey Project, which implores people to understand that turkeys are sentient beings with personalities and feelings.

Smith explained, “Because we helped out with the Adopt-a-Turkey program, the sweet folks at the @farmsanctuary named three little lambs after me and @harleyquinnsmith!”

Meet Kevin, Harley and Quinn! Because we helped out with the Adopt-a-Turkey program, the sweet folks at the @farmsanctuary named three little lambs after me and @harleyquinnsmith! These recently rescued wooly wonders are settling into #farmsanctuarylife at the Watkins Glen headquarters in NY (you might be able to see them virtually in a live feed on Farm Sanctuary’s Facebook page at noon)! Sadly, the triplets were found caught in a rainstorm after their mother died giving birth. Thankfully, they were discovered and brought to #farmsanctuary where they’ve been given around-the-clock care. Harley’s the female of the three and word is she’s very vocal (like her namesake). Nothing wrong with a sheep gift! Wool take it! Ba-Ba bad puns, have you any thanks? Yes sir, yes sir! Many thanks to Lindsay Morris and the superheroes at Farm Sanctuary! If you wanna see more amazing animals and maybe lend support, visit the Farm Sanctuary on Instagram and at Facebook. #KevinSmith #animals #lambs #lambsofinstagram #rescueanimals

These recently rescued wooly wonders are settling into #farmsanctuarylife at the Watkins Glen headquarters in NY,” he said, before explaining the background. “Sadly, the triplets were found caught in a rainstorm after their mother died giving birth,” he explained. “Thankfully, they were discovered and brought to #farmsanctuary where they’ve been given around-the-clock care… Many thanks to… the superheroes at Farm Sanctuary!”

Smith also told his followers about the lambs’ personalities, writing, “Harley’s the female of the three and word is she’s very vocal (like her namesake).”

Harley Quinn Smith added on her own Instagram post that it was the “biggest honor of my entire life.” She said, “I’m so thankful that @farmsanctuary saves these angels and am thrilled that my dad and I get to share names with them! I can’t wait to meet Harley, Kevin and Quinn!!!”

The producer concluded his post, “Nothing wrong with a sheep gift! Wool take it! Ba-Ba bad puns, have you any thanks? Yes sir, yes sir!” Puns aside, he encouraged his fans to “see more amazing animals and maybe lend support” to the shelter, directing them to the Farm Sanctuary social pages.

Smith became vegan for the health benefits following a major heart attack earlier this year, but has since shown himself to be passionate about animal welfare as well. He dubbed his animal rights-enthusiast daughter a “role model” for his new lifestyle.

Not only has Smith stood up for turkeys, he also helped save horses during California’s Woolsey fire by signaling boosting the call for help in evacuating a stable.
