A Guide to Eating Just Like Miley Cyrus!

Miley’s been vegan for a few years now, and her bright personality combined with her positive activism has motivated thousands. She’s continually advocating for animal rights and has certainly reaped the health benefits along the way. So, what does this celebrity eat on a daily basis?

It’s no secret to say that Miley loves to eat, just like all vegans. However, Miley enjoys these eight plant-based ingredients in the majority of her meals.

Bell Peppers

These colorful veggies are low in calories and help to prevent against various types of cancer. Peppers are also extremely high in vitamin C and vitamin E, which support a healthy immune system and creates radiant skin. The red variety of peppers has the highest concentration of vitamin C – make sure to grab a few extra at the market. Capsaicin is also found within bell peppers, which relieves pain and reduces inflammation. These peppers are so colorful, you can add them to just about any meal, like a tofu scramble or dipped in red pepper hummus.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are often confused as a vegetable, but are truly fruits. They taste delicious on just about anything, and Miley would probably agree. Consuming tomatoes helps to prevent cancer, high cholesterol, and heart disease. They’re high in potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and lycopene – these powerful antioxidants protect and repair the body from damage caused by several diseases. Cut them up and drizzle olive oil, salt, and pepper on them. Roast them in the oven and blend them to make your favorite pasta sauce. Miley enjoys them as toppings and accents to a meal.

Spinach

This leafy green is easy to find and doesn’t cost too much. Spinach contains potassium, zinc, iron, calcium, niacin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and so much more. By consuming this healthful plant, you’re sure to experience improved brain function, better eyesight, stronger muscles, and an increased metabolism. Grab a handful and use as a base for a salad, or saute a bunch of spinach leaves with fresh garlic and ginger. It’s easy to see where Miley gets her strong bones from!

Avocados

Avocados are another surprising fruit that is full of nutrients, like folate, potassium, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin K. They contain more potassium than bananas, and are loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats, which are great for your heart. People who tend to eat avocados are generally healthier than those who don’t. The natural fat within this fruit allows the body to absorb all the nutrients from other fruits and vegetables. It’s very versatile and can be used in anything, from breakfast toppings to puddings and cakes. Miley enjoys a slice, or five, on top of her tacos and burrito bowls, or just with a spoon to scoop out of its shell.

Onions

Onions can be consumed raw, cooked, and even pickled. Raw onion can help to lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and helps to keep your heart healthy. No wonder onions are paired so often with tomatoes – these two plants are powerhouses. They also contain vitamin C, which boosts immunity and helps to form collagen to support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Onions can be the focus of a dish or just an accent for additional flavor. Miley likes to chop them into small pieces and sauté them with her peppers.

Tempeh and Legumes

Fermented soybeans are usually referred to as tempeh. Most grocery and health food stores supply various types of this high-protein, high-fiber meat substitute. Legumes, like beans and lentils, are also very high in fiber and low in fat. These foods are easy to prepare and can store in the refrigerator for several days. Whether it be tempeh, beans, or lentils, find creative ways to enjoy these healthy foods. Add them on top of salads for extra flavor and texture, create a soup full of high protein sources that will keep you full, or make your favorite bowl and throw some on top. Miley enjoys adding tempeh and lentils to her tacos and wraps.

Broccoli

Broccoli can be enjoyed raw or cooked – it’s all about personal preference. This veggie contains vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin K, dietary fiber, potassium, manganese, and phosphorus. Broccoli helps to treat cancer, detoxify the body, and prevent heart disease. These are just a few beneficial characteristics, but this plant is loaded with health. Try chopping broccoli finely to add as sprinkled toppings, sauté with your favorite veggies, or steam the florets.

Mushrooms

You might notice that mushrooms have a unique texture. Vegans love to use them in their cooking, especially Miley.
Mushrooms are loaded with vitamin D and several types of minerals, such as selenium, copper, and potassium. They’re also high in fiber and help to prevent various types of cancer. Stuff these caps with your favorite vegan cheeses, breadcrumbs, and herbs. You can even toss them into a pan and saute them with all of Miley’s favorite plant foods!

Remember that all of these plants are full of protein and are nutrient dense. Miley’s favorite plant foods are packed with power!
