New KFC Commercial Slammed By Disgusted Viewers

Popular fast-food chain, KFC has released a new, rather strange television commercial and viewers are being put off their dinner! This ad, entitled ‘The Whole Chicken‘ features white-coloured hens being exploited for human entertainment, or rather: strutting their sassy stuff around a warehouse to the tune of DMX’s “X Gon’ Give it to Ya”.

What could possibly be the purpose of this odd advertisement?

To promote KFC’s chicken being made from, get this: 100% chicken. (Yeah, right!)

“At KFC we’re proud of our chicken, freshly prepared in our restaurants and sourced from Red Tractor Assured farms, and not afraid to show it. (The ad) represents a step change for us, taking a bolder stance when it comes to engaging with our loyal customers and fans.” – KFC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Meg Farren.

Could KFC’s recent switch from Mother to advertising company BBH have something to do with this bold, new ad campaign? It is the first advert released for KFC since the switch…

No matter what your stance on animal rights and exploitation, the overwhelming response is that people aren’t happy! Even coining the ad ‘disgusting’.

Not only do people think the ad is distasteful, many are left very confused; debating whether to feel sympathy for the lives of these cute, living chickens rather than salivating over a box of fried chicken nuggets.

KFC’s ad really could be mistaken for a PETA ad instead as it promotes living, real chickens rather than slaughtered and fried wings or nuggets!

Elisa Allen, director of PETA even told The Independent: ‘It certainly looks as if we designed it, because it challenges anyone thinking of eating chickens to look these smart, sociable, sensitive, and beautiful birds in the eye and recognise that they are individuals, not body parts to be battered as nuggets.’

Maybe KFC should have shown that these intelligent birds can also count to 5, are protective when parenting and capable of self-reflection. They also deserve to be free and wild as nature designed, not crammed into over-crowded cages where they spend their lives suffering miserably until eventual slaughter for human consumption.

So, thanks KFC for putting people off eating chicken and forcing them to make the connection between their plate and the living animal, or shame on them for releasing a catchy, ‘genius’ advert which sticks in people’s heads and makes them crave Kentucky Fried Chicken?
