Lewis Hamilton and Jackie Chan have co-produced the highly anticipated vegan documentary “The Game Changers.”

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Louis Psihoyos (2009’s “The Cove”) and produced by James Cameron (“Avatar”, “Titanic”), the film initially premiered over a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival.

Hamilton, the 5-time Formula One race car champion and martial artist and action film star Chan, were announced as part of the production team in a recent post on Facebook.

Hamilton is a firm believer in plant protein; he initially adopted a vegan diet after watching the 2017 documentary “What the Health,” which examined the link between animal products and disease.

Since then, the athlete has adopted a more ethical stance, regularly speaking out against animal cruelty on his Instagram.

Chan made headlines last year when he expressed concern for animal welfare, urging followers to adopt not shop.

The number one ranked tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic, former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, and basketball player Chris Paul were all also announced as executive producers of the film.

The Game Changers

Chan and Hamilton are not alone in advocating for a meat-free lifestyle. “The Game Changers” stars multiple successful athletes who follow plant-based diets, including world surfing champion Tia Blanco and record-holding ultramarathoner Scott Jurek.

The film centers around James Wilks, an elite special forces trainer, as he strives to find the truth behind “the world’s most dangerous myth:” that humans need to eat meat for protein and overall good health. Wilks used to believe that meat was essential until he became badly injured in a training accident.

“Unable to train for six months after my injury, I started researching the optimal diet for recovery and stumbled across a study about the Roman gladiators which concluded that they ate little or no meat,” Wilk notes on “The Game Changers” website. “This seemed really far-fetched to me since I was confident that animal protein was necessary to build muscle, sustain energy levels, and recover from injury.”

The documentary sees Wilks turn this belief on its head. He says, “what I discovered was so revolutionary, with such profound implications for human performance and health — and even the future of the planet itself — that I had to share it with the world.”

“The Game Changers” global theatrical screening event will take place on September 16.
