Lush Cosmetics Launches Spooky Vegan Halloween Beauty Collection

Halloween might be the spookiest holiday of the year, but vegans have no need to be scared, as Lush Cosmetics has debuted a cruelty-free vegan-friendly Halloween-themed beauty range.

The new collection features a range of ghoulish items, including orange and lavender-scented eyeball bath bombs, and the innovative new glow-in-the-dark Ghost in the Dark soap. The unique product is made using ethically sourced cocoa butter and is scented with lemongrass and bergamot oils. According to Lush, “this glowing spectre-cle will shine in the darkness when you’re scared to look under your bed.”  The collection also introduces two new permanent vegan products, the Scrub Scrub Scrub and Magic Crystals exfoliants.

Halloween-appropriate and vegan-friendly, the collection is also suitable for the environmentally conscious consumer. In line with its recent move away from single-use plastic, The Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar is made with plastic-free glitter, and the collection also includes a “naked” Ectoplasm shower cream which is packaged without plastic.

The brand has also released several spooky new knot wrap designs. Knot wraps serve as a re-usable, Japanese-inspired method of wrapping gifts, and can also be used as a hair accessory. The new Halloween designs include Monster Party, Tarot, Peek-A-Boo, and Bat Bag; all are made from recycled plastic bottles and showcase bright colours and unique patterns.

THE SPELLBINDING GROWTH OF THE VEGAN BEAUTY MARKET

Vegan cosmetic and personal care products are increasingly available year-round, not just for special occasions. Lush itself frequently launches new vegan-friendly products, such as its forty shade range of Slap Sticks Solid Foundation – though the brand is known for its unique holiday-specific products. The brand launched 23 romantic vegan bath and beauty products for Valentine’s Day, and last year released 100 vegan products especially for Christmas.

Other major companies are also growing their vegan and cruelty-free product ranges. This summer, The Body Shop launched a vegan banana body care collection, and fashion and beauty retailer ASOS added Crayola Beauty’s vegan make-up collection to its offerings. Even global giant Dove, Unilever’s largest personal care brand, recently gained PETA accreditation as cruelty-free, earning all of its products a cruelty-free logo from 2019.
