(Updated October 2020) Over the past few years, Glossier has achieved cult beauty status.
The New York City-based brand was founded by former Vogue staffer Emily Weiss. Weiss wasn’t happy with her experience with beauty brands. She explained to Business Insider that she felt they were always talking “at” her and lacked a genuine story.
It led her to create the beauty-focused blog Into the Gloss in 2010. The brand gained a strong following fast, with an average of 1.5 million visitors a month. Drawing from her site’s active comments section, Weiss founded Glossier in 2014 to give consumers the products they were looking for.
Are Glossier Products Vegan?
Glossier is a cruelty-free brand, but not all of its products are vegan. Its Super Glow and Super Bounce serums were vegan, but the formula was updated in March 2019. According to the brand, it now uses xanthan gum (a thickening agent and stabilizer) processed with an egg-derived enzyme.
The brand initially offered makeup for a “barely there” look. But in early 2019, it introduced Glossier Play, a vegan-friendly makeup range featuring bolder lip colors, glitter, nail polish, and a new brow pen. Glossier now offers a number of vegan products ranging from cleansers and body washes to fragrance and skincare.
