Nestlé’s Vegan Credentials

Nestlé made headlines recently by announcing it may drop its popular lunchmeat brand, in favor of developing its vegan meat product offering. The giant acquired vegetarian meat brand Sweet Earth in September 2017, amid recognition that consumer trends are moving towards plant-based diets.

CEO Mark Schneider said of the acquisition “Inside food and beverage, if you think about today’s announcement on Herta, it really shows how we are positioning the company towards what is benefiting from higher growth and future areas such as plant-based offerings that are very much on-trend with where consumers are heading.

In December last year, the brand also announced it would be changing the packaging on its breakfast cereal, Shreddies. The popular product, made from lattices of wholegrain, is now labeled with the slogan “forever vegan”.

The white morsels due to launch in August and will be available at retailers such as Walmart for $4.99.
