New York City-based Tim Burton-themed restaurant, Beetle House, has veganized 50 percent of its menu.
The restaurant and bar where “everyday is Halloween,” is now offering dishes such as Edward Vegan Hands, a play on the classic 1990 Burton film, “Edward Scissorhands.” The offering includes a veggie patty with vegan cheese, avocado, vegan bacon, and more. The Sweeney Shroom, a marinated and grilled portobello cap steak, is also on offer, based on Burton’s 2007 interpretation of “Sweeney Todd.” The Vegan Cheshire Mac, a nod to the director’s take on “Alice in Wonderland,” is new to the menu, too, featuring creamy vegan cheese sauce and breadcrumbs.
Sides such as Poisonous Mushroom Fries, which are served with BBQ oyster mushrooms and vegan cheese, and a Sauteed Veggie Medley, are also offered on the updated menu.

“This is a very proud day for us in NYC,” founder Zach Neil wrote on the restaurant’s Instagram account a few days ago. “Our goal was to get our menu to 50% vegan (plant-based) and today we roll out our new menu in preview which includes many of our classics now reimagined as vegan dishes!” He continued, “In addition, we have many dishes and appetizers for all of our plant-based friends to enjoy! No more days of veggie burgers and plain salads! Thanks guys for your support as we continue to improve and challenge ourselves to create and improve!”
“The idea was simple,” Neil states on the website. “Create a space where people who love Halloween, horror films, and gothic dark music can gather for a meal and drinks. A safe space where it really feels like Halloween all year round and people can come and enjoy good food, good drinks, listen to good music, and feel completely comfortable to be as freaky as they want to be.”
“This would be my home for the freaks, weirdos, and grown-up goth kids of the city,” he concluded.
