OPI Finally Makes Vegan Nail Polish

Your DIY manis and pedis just got a major upgrade. OPI makes vegan nail polish now, and the bold new colors are inspired by the environment.

The nail polish brand just dropped its first-ever vegan nail polish range, Nature Strong. The collection, which is also cruelty-free, features 30 new shades in a variety of neutral, earthy colors.

Round out summer with the pale yellow shade of Make My Daisy or opt for the coral-colored shade Once and Floral. Or choose the brand’s darker shades, like Onyx Skies or the teal-colored All Heal Queen Mother Earth.

The vegan range features plant- and mineral-based ingredients that are sourced from nature. These include wheat, sugar cane, corn, potatoes, and clay. They’re also “9-free,” and are absent of toxic ingredients like formaldehyde and parabens.

Even the range’s nail polish containers are earth-friendly. The plastic caps and glass bottles are made from 20 percent post-consumer recycled materials. (Because of this, the brand notes the caps may have minor cosmetic imperfections.)

OPI launches vegan nail polish

Traditional nail polishes often feature toxic chemicals, including formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate. The former is a colorless gas that acts as a preservative and nail hardener in some polishes.

However, consumers are more aware of what goes into—and onto—their bodies and are thus turning away from toxic ingredients.

The clean beauty market is certainly burgeoning, and OPI credits this “changing beauty landscape” for its new natural line. According to a report released earlier this year, the global clean beauty industry is expected to be worth $11558.5 Million in 2027, up from its valuation of $5439.6 million in 2020.

OPI is the latest nail polish brand to embrace vegan and clean ingredients, and vegan and cruelty-free brand Ella + Mila also carries a wide variety of non-toxic nail lacquers. The company also carries nail care products, including a vitamin-enriched soy nail polish remover and cuticle remover.

Beauty brand Côte carries a range of non-toxic nail colors, too. In addition to offering a chip-resistant, long-lasting shine, the nail polish is free from the major toxins that are commonly found in conventional nail polishes.
