Organic Vegan Seaweed Skincare Brand OSEA Malibu Opens First Store

OSEA Malibu, a skincare brand loved by many for its adherence to a vegan, cruelty-free, organic, and all-natural ingredient policy, has opened its first store.

As of this month, OSEA Skincare Studio is open for business. The brick-and-mortar location, located in Venice, is the company’s first shift away from its previously exclusively stocking at external retailers. As well as its vegan product range, the quaint store offers customers wellbeing-enhancing facials and other skincare treatments. It also intends to develop into a welcoming community location that hosts plant-based cooking demonstrations, informative natural skincare talks, and meditation classes.

OSEA, that stands for Ocean, Sun, Earth, and Atmosphere, was inspired by founder Jenefer Palmer’s grandmother who used seaweed she gathered from the ocean to treat ailments. Since its 1996 launch, OSEA has more than quadrupled its non-toxic product offerings. Each product is crafted in the brand’s Ventura lab, where it focuses on curating a harmonious blend of nutrient-dense seaweed concentrates with essential oils and natural, locally sourced ingredients, such as herbs that are cultivated nearby the Zuma Beach headquarters.

Top influencers including Kylie Jenner, Shonda Rhimes, Jessica Biel, and Ozzy Osbourne have raved about the company. It also appeared in Legally Blonde 2, a film addressing the unethical nature of animal testing.

Palmer’s affinity for natural ingredients was inspired while working as a beauty therapist at the Murrieta Hot Springs resort. During her time applying so-called “healthy” products to the skin of clients like Marilyn Monroe, Palmer felt her desire for ethical entrepreneurship mount. “I thought, they’re selling us a dream and they’re selling us products with ingredients that irritate our skin, at the very least, I wouldn’t have eaten any food that had comparable ingredients, so why would I put it on my skin?” Palmer told Hollywood Reporter.

OSEA is one of many companies opting to eschew animal products from production lines to create compassionate and sustainable beauty products. Recently, award-winning beauty brand ColourPop launched a line of 42 vegan and cruelty-free foundations that cater to a diverse spectrum of complexions. And Lush, a brand that strongly opposes animal testing, debuted 40 vegan shades in its new makeup line.

OSEA Skincare Studio is located in a beach bungalow on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice.
