Rihanna’s Fenty Perfume Is Cruelty-Free and Smells Like Magic

If it’s perfume that you want, then keep a close eye on Fenty Beauty. The brand (which helped to make founder Rihanna a billionaire, no less) is launching its first fragrance. And just like everything else from the cosmetics company, it’s cruelty-free.

Fenty Beauty teased the new perfume launch on social media a few days ago. It posted an image of a blue perfume box on Instagram, with the caption: “An intimate unisex fragrance that is everything you feel, everything you are, and everything you want to be.”

Follow-up posts revealed that while the packaging is a bold blue, the bottle is a deep reddish-brown. They also stated that the scent is “where sensual and seductive unite” and that it’s “raw, sensual, spicy, and sweet all at once.”

Rihanna says the perfume—which has notes of magnolia, musk, tangerine, and blueberry, as well as floral additions of Bulgarian rose absolute, geranium, and patchouli—was inspired by some of her favorite places, including Bridgetown, Barbados, and Grasse in France.

The color was also chosen to represent her and “all genders from across all walks of life.” She added: “Brown is my favorite color. Brown is who I am. Brown is what I come from. If I’m going to make a fragrance that represents me, even the body language of the bottle needs to marry that. So, I wanted something brown, but also transparent – so you could see the liquid and the fragrance you’re about to experience.”

While the fragrance is a first for Fenty, pop icon and beauty entrepreneur Rihanna isn’t a perfume industry newcomer. She has released several popular perfumes in the past with Parlux, including the fruity Reb’l Fleur and floral Rogue Love.

Rihanna’s new billionaire status & celebrity cruelty-free beauty

Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017. With inclusivity at its core and a foundation range of 50 shades, the brand revolutionized the industry. (Now most cosmetic companies offer a wide range of shades, but this wasn’t commonplace before Rihanna entered the game.)

In the last four years, the company’s resulting success has helped Rihanna accumulate a worth of $1.7 billion, according to Forbes. (A huge $1.4 billion comes from Fenty Beauty, the rest is from her music career and lingerie company, Savage x Fenty.)

But while Rihanna is undeniably the most successful celebrity to build a beauty brand, she isn’t alone. The celeb world has a firm grip on the beauty industry.

Just last month, Ariana Grande also launched a new vegan fragrance, called God Is A Woman. (Like Rihanna, the singer has several fragrances, including the self-titled ARI and scents named after her hits which include Thank U Next and R.E.M.)

In June, Vanessa Hudgens and Madison Beer teamed up to launch a new DNA-based beauty brand, called Know Beauty. And other celebrities with cruelty-free beauty brands include Selena Gomez, Millie Bobby Brown, and Lauren Conrad. (You can find our list here!)

To bag a sniff of Rihanna’s Fenty Parfum ahead of its launch on August 10, order more than $40 worth of products on Fenty Beauty by August 8 and you’ll receive a free sample.

It’s important to note: while everything on Fenty Beauty is cruelty-free, not everything is vegan, so double-check the ingredients list before filling your cart. Everything from skincare brand Fenty Skin, however, is 100 percent vegan. Check it out here.
