Seitan Makes This Vegan Shepherd’s Pie Extra Meaty

JUST TOUCHED-DOWN IN LONDON-TOWN! By Chloe has made it to the UK! We’re trying to achieve #local status by serving up classic English dishes, including our (soon-to-be-famous) Shepherd’s Pie! Our chefs gave this traditional dish a By Chloe spin, with delicious vegan substitutes.

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:152]If you love cooking with meat-like seitan — you’re not alone, sales of the versatile wheat gluten-based ingredient have skyrocketed in recent months —  there are plenty of other recipes you could try.

If it’s Italian food you fancy, try this recipe for vegan parmigiana with homemade seitan chicken cutlets. According to recipe creator Amanda Fisher, the texture of the chick’n is spot on and it doesn’t have a “strong mock meat flavour.”

If you’re looking for a quick and easy lunch dish, opt for this recipe for a creamy vegan seitan chicken, avocado, and tomato wrap. According to Viva! Recipe Club — the organization that put together this recipe — the dish is great for fussy eaters and will please both skeptical meat-eaters and vegans alike.

Alternatively, you could try this recipe for a vegan “naked” Taco Bell chicken-style seitan chalupa wrap. According to recipe creator Aaron Calder, he was challenged to make this protein-packed lunch dish by a follower from New York. It includes breaded seitan chicken, dairy-free cheese, lettuce, tomato, and creamy avocado ranch dressing.

If you enjoyed this British comfort food recipe and you’d like to experiment with something similarly warming and simple to make, you could try this protein-packed vegan lentil bolognese. Like Shepherd’s Pie, it’s a warming mid-week classic loved by many.

Or you could opt for this simple vegan chili, it requires cremini and shiitake mushrooms, beans, onions, and a bunch of veggies. Recipe maker Elizabeth Shah says, “the texture is convincingly similar to conventional chili.”

If you’re not full yet, try this recipe for healthy vegan raspberry cake donuts with icing for dessert. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more chocolatey, you could opt for this recipe for a dairy-free creamy chocolate roulade with added vegan chocolate, which should just about satisfy your sweet tooth.
