Every vegan beauty addict has the same fantasy: Unlimited access to every cruelty-free skincare essential at their fingertips. The Beauty Library is helping your dreams come true.
Whether you’re looking for scented bath salts to toss in a warm bath, moisturizers for glowing skin, or cruelty-free makeup to serve some major looks—The Beauty Library is your one-stop-shop for all things vegan beauty-related.
Katie Wirth, who converted to a plant-based diet in 2016, founded the online marketplace after growing frustrated with having to constantly read through product ingredients to ensure that they were vegan and cruelty-free.
“I wanted to be able to go to a store and just…shop! But, alas, most of the time I found myself worriedly squinting through mile-long ingredient lists and then pulling out my phone to check the cruelty-free status of a company,” she said. “It was not fun.”
The Beauty Library
Wirth says The Beauty Library makes shopping for vegan products much easier. It consolidates all of the vegan and cruelty-free choices into one place.
The online marketplace carries a wide range of vegan beauty brands, such as Inika and French Girl. Not all of the brands carried by The Beauty Library are entirely vegan. But Wirth says she only sells brands’ products that are.
“For instance, I carry brands that do not have an entirely vegan line,” she explained.
She added: “[But] veganism is the founding principle behind The Beauty Library.” In order to ensure all of the items are vegan, she says she carefully curates products that meet her ethical standards.
“So I handpick the vegan items and that’s what I carry on the website,” she explained.
Her standards for ensuring the products’ are cruelty-free are just as rigorous. “For a product to be considered cruelty-free by The Beauty Library’s standards, no animal testing can be conducted during any point in the production of the item, no third parties can test on animals on behalf of the company, and the company cannot sell to a country that requires animal testing,” she explained.
Non-Toxic, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free
In addition to being vegan and cruelty-free, Wirth says all of The Beauty Library’s products are non-toxic, which are ingredients that have been known to cause toxic responses in the body.
She says she meticulously combs through the ingredients to make sure the products she carries are free of chemicals and ingredients such as formaldehyde or parabens. Studies show these harmful chemicals may cause a number of health issues. These include allergic reactions and hormone disruptions.
“The majority of ingredients in the products I sell are natural and organic, so the vetting process is easy at times. But for every ingredient that I am not familiar with, I screen it with the Made Safe website and the EWG website for a toxicity rating,” she explained.
“I just couldn’t sell a product that could potentially harm the health of my customers. And the great thing is, there are now so many high performing, clean beauty products that there’s no need to settle for harmful products,” she added.
Advocating For ‘The Little Things’
Wirth is wholly committed to making the world a better place for all, including animals. She says this is The Beauty Library’s primary mission. To help accomplish this, Wirth partnered with the Xerces Society. The non-profit environmental organization specializes in conserving invertebrates like bees. A portion of every purchase goes toward supporting the organization’s pollinator conservation efforts.
“I am proud to be able to work with an organization that advocates for ‘the little things that run the world,’” Wirth said.
“It is, of course, our choices in life that make us beautiful and choosing to be kind to animals and adopting a vegan lifestyle is a beautiful thing,” she added.
