Making good on its promise, Beyond Meat has launched its vegan Beyond Sausage in Los Angeles today in two restaurant chains: the popular vegan fast-food spot, Veggie Grill, where it launched its Beyond Burger just a year ago, and sausage bar Wurstküche.
“In keeping with our Eat What You Love™ brand promise, I am pleased to bring to market our delicious plant-based sausage line, product innovation that provides consumers with that satiating taste and juiciness of animal sausage with the health and environmental upside of plant-based eating,” Ethan Brown, Founder and CEO of Beyond Meat told One Green Planet.
The Southern California vegan meat company launched the vegan Beyond Sausages late last year at its restaurant inside the Boulder, Colorado, Whole Foods Market. Like its increasingly popular Beyond Burger, the Beyond Sausage is said to look, cook, and taste like animal-based sausage. But as a plant-based product, it gets its protein and fiber from peas and beans. Its sausage casing comes from an alga.
Beyond Meat debuted the sausages in New York City earlier this month at another traditional sausage bar, Schaller’s Stube, on the Upper East Side. Then, last week, in a rather cryptic Instagram post, it teased that a Los Angeles launch was happening this week, asking its fans to guess the location.
According to One Green Planet, Wurstküche will be serving all three of the Beyond Sausage flavors: Original Bratwurst, Hot Italian, and Sweet Italian. “You’ll be able to build-your-own with toppings such as sauerkraut, caramelized onion, curry ketchup, spicy peppers, and Thai peanut sauce,” the site notes. The vegan sausages are available at both Wurstküche locations in Downtown Los Angeles and Venice.
Veggie Grill will be offering the “Wunderbrat,” an Original Bratwurst Beyond Sausage “served on a Pretzilla bun with Sierra Nevada vegan cheese sauce, caramelized onions, mustard, pickled red cabbage, and crispy fries.” That’s currently only available at the El Segundo and Hollywood Veggie Grill locations.
