You can now get vegan cheese at every Pizza Hut across Australia. The popular pizza chain introduced a full vegan menu earlier this month.
Pizza Hut’s new menu features four pies: Vegan Mediterranean, Vegan Deluxe, Vegan Cheese Lovers, and Vegan Margherita. Each pie is topped with soy-based mozzarella made by local brand Dairy Free Down Under, News reports.
For sides, Pizza Hut now offers vegan cheesy garlic bread, regular garlic bread, and spud bites. Vegan Cornetto ice cream cones are available for dessert.
Pizza Hut Australia first trialed vegan cheese in May 2018 at two locations in New South Wales. “We believe everyone should be able to share good times and enjoy a mutual love for pizza,” Pizza Hut chief marketing officer Chet Patel said in a statement. “We’ve been doing it for almost 50 years, so instead of calling those who choose to be vegan out, we’re calling them in.”

Earlier this month, Pizza Hut UK expanded its vegan menu, adding a new pizza, Quorn chicken nuggets, and a dairy-free caramel cheesecake. The new option followed its popular jackfruit pizza introduced at the start of the year as well as its three-course vegan menu.
Pizza Hut US may soon introduce a vegan meat topping. On Wednesday, the chain trialed a plant-based Italian sausage topping at one location in Phoenix, Arizona. The sausage, made by Kellogg-owned MorningStar Farms, was served on a pizza with banana peppers, onions, and mushrooms. A national roll-out may be in the cards. Last September, Pizza Hut CEO Artie Starrs revealed in an interview with CNN Business that the company was considering adding a plant-based meat topping.
Pizza Chains Go Vegan
Pizza Hut isn’t the only chain in Australia that has introduced vegan cheese. Earlier this month, Domino’s, which has offered dairy-free cheese since January 2018, launched meat-free ham, sausage, and pepperoni nationwide. According to CEO Don Meij, flexitarians are the ones driving vegan food sales.
“The interesting insight is that we’re not just really targeting vegan customers, 93 percent of the Domino’s customers we talk to who are going to buy a plant-based product are actually meat-eaters who want that style of a high-protein menu but they’d like to have more of the benefits that come from vegetables,” he said in an interview with CNBC.
