Sustainable Fashion Designer Stella McCartney Adds Vegan and Recyclable Sneaker Collection

Stella McCartney

Vegan fashion designer Stella McCartney has released new “sustainably designed” recyclable sneakers.

Described as “dynamic, modern and light,” the new Loop” sneaker is “a feat of engineering,” according to the brand.

Made in Italy using an innovative new method, the upper body of the shoe is fixed to the sole without glue, meaning that the two can be separated “at the end of the sneaker’s life” and be recycled. The shoes are “energised” by a bold sports-inspired sock boot design and are available with a stretch knit feel or leather-look design.

Costing around £485 to £545, a portion of the price of the new sneaker goes toward ensuring a fair wage for all those involved in the shoes’ production – from the farmers who grow the materials, to the manufacturers, to the employees.

The international fashion brand was built by Stella McCartney, daughter of activist and musician Sir Paul McCartney and the late Linda McCartney, who founded the veggie meat brand which still bears her name. In keeping with her family’s ethical values, McCartney’s clothes are made with the intention to enrich and protect the planet, as well as to treat animals and their habitats respectfully.

Renowned for her focus on ethical, sustainable, and cruelty-free fashion, McCartney avoids both leather and fur in her collections and even helped create vegan silk.

The designer also promotes beach and river cleanups around the globe. Her London office recently partook in a Thames River cleanup and plans to turn all of the collected recyclable rubbish into fashion products.

Even supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss supports the McCartney brand, using her modeling platform to promote the designer’s most recent environmentally-friendly collection. The collection, part of ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY, features fabrics including recycled polyester, recycled Parley Ocean Plastic™ and organic cotton.

The new Loop sneakers are available for both men and women and are available in a range of colours.
