Vegan shawarma inspired tacos! This idea popped into my head the last time I was eating tacos, and I’m so glad it turned out exactly the way I envisioned it! It’s a fusion between tacos and Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine! A weird mix for some, but I’m telling you, it works!
For those that have never tried it before, shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish that typically consists of roasted meat cut into thin slices. This veganized version uses seasoned tofu in place of the meat.
The sumac tofu in this vegan shawarma taco recipe is seasoned with oregano, nutritional yeast, sumac, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, lemon juice, dill, oil, and red wine vinegar.
The tacos feature cucumbers, pickles, turnip, Lebanese garlic sauce, and lettuce. Yum!
I know I will make this recipe again! Next time I’ll add Kalamata olives to make them even better! Why not add Mediterranean flavors to the mix?!
I hope you guys like it![amd-zlrecipe-recipe:304]
If you loved my shawarma tacos, you are definitely going to want to try making this authentic vegan Middle Eastern millet and nut pilaf with lemon, mint, and yogurt sauce. This dish is bursting with flavor; plus, it’s a light and fresh alternative to traditional risotto. For those that have never tried it, millet is a staple grain, particularly in Asian and African cuisine. The millet and the peas make this full of protein and iron.
If you’re looking for a delicious sauce, you can try making this vegan tzatziki sauce made with almond milk yogurt. This recipe is ideal for crackers, veggie stickers, and falafel kebabs. It’s also really simple to make! The recipe calls for almond milk yogurt, Persian cucumbers, lemon juice, red onion, chopped dill, salt, and white pepper.
This crispy vegan beetroot and chickpea falafels with spinach hummus is also a perfect choice for a delicious, hearty dinner. The dish features beetroot and chickpea falafels smothered in a tasty, creamy spinach hummus. According to the recipe’s author, falafels “are a deep-fried patty made from fava beans or ground chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans)—or a combination of both. A variety of herbs and spices are added to them to give them their signature taste.”
