Vegan ‘Starbucks’ Egg Bites Dupe to Launch in the US

Vegan ‘Starbucks’ Egg Bites Dupe to Launch in the US

Vegan “Starbucks” egg bites dupes are launching in the U.S. this March.

Vegan sous vide egg bites, not unlike the egg bites Starbucks sells, will be released in March by the company behind JUST Egg, a bottled vegan egg alternative.

The plant-based egg bites will be available in grocery stores across the country. California-based Eat Just, Inc. partnered with Cuisine Solutions, Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor of sous vide foods, in order to bring the plant-based product to supermarkets nationwide.

Per a press release sent to LIVEKINDLY, the vegan JUST Egg Sous Vide bites are prepared in a way so the food is vacuum-sealed and cooked at a low, consistent temperature. They will be available in “four unique and distinct flavors inspired by regional cuisines and whole plants.”

Flavors include “America,” which is made with roasted potato, dill, chives, red bell pepper, and black pepper. “India” is prepared with curry, broccoli, cauliflower, coconut milk, and lemongrass.

A third flavor inspired by Japanese cuisine features portobello mushrooms, yams, togarashi, soy, and tamari. The fourth and final variety, inspired by Mexico, includes roasted poblanos, chipotle chile powder, black beans, corn, and lime.

The JUST Egg Sous Vide bites will be sold as a box of four in select supermarkets.

What’s in JUST Egg’s Vegan Egg Bites?

Mung bean protein is the star ingredient in JUST Egg’s Sous Vide Egg Bites. The plant-based protein is also used in the brand’s other products, such as JUST Egg and JUST Egg Folded.

Mung bean protein helps ensure that the vegan egg bites are free of cholesterol while containing protein comparable to a conventional chicken egg. Additionally, the product is non-GMO, dairy-free, and has no artificial flavors. The ingredients in JUST Egg’s Sous Vide Egg Bites also use less water and land and emits less CO2.

The Cuisine Solutions team is the best in the world at what they do. We partnered with them because of their unparalleled expertise and leadership in the sous vide industry and their commitment to make our food system even better. We’re excited for consumers to taste what we’ve been working on,” Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of Eat Just, said in a statement.

Felipe Hasselmann, President and CEO of Cuisine Solutions added that Josh’s vision is “very much aligned with Cuisine Solutions’ vision — both organizations seek to impact and revolutionize the food industry on a daily basis, which is what makes this such a natural partnership.

The ‘Fastest-Growing Egg Brand’

Aside from the upcoming sous vide egg bites, Eat Just offers its popular vegan egg in liquid and folded formats. That product, which launched in April 2019, has become increasingly popular.

Food Dive notes that according to Nielsen statistics from Eat Just, in the 12 months prior to October 3, 2020, Just Egg was the fastest-growing egg brand in grocery — both plant-based and conventional — with 367 percent growth in dollar sales compared to the previous year.

As of October, Just Egg was available at or coming to more than 19,000 grocers, and in more than 500 foodservice locations. Earlier this month, its folded egg patty replaced conventional eggs at popular Chinese fast-food chain Dicos.
